We are very excited to introduce you to our latest extension and let you know what it can do and what improvements we will be making to the extension after the initial release. Also if you go to bottom of post you will also see we are running a giveway where you can win a free license for this extension.
The extension adds a new tab to user profiles which will allow a user to see all of their posts, posts they have received from other users and allow them to create new posts.
The extension creates a new page called activity and this is where a user can see all posts created on the site from all users.
The posting interface allows users to upload and attach a photo to a post. The user can upload a photo and also write custom text above photo. Only one photo can be uploaded per post.
If a user pastes a Youtube or Vimeo link into a post it will automatically be embedded into the post so users can watch the video without leaving the site. Note: The post will only embed the first url added. If a user adds any more links to a post they will appear as links only.
The extension allows users to like a post. If a post is liked it will instantly increase the like counter. The posting interface will show the profile images of some of the people who have liked the post and a user can see a full list of who has liked a post by clicking on one of the profile pics, which will open up the like modal.
The extension allows users to comment on a user’s post. It is also possible to like comments and also reply to individual comments. To keep the activity feed clean the plugin by default will only show two comments with the rest only appearing when “load more comments” is clicked. As an admin you can set in options how many comments to show initially and how many to load when a user click “load more comments”.
The extension allows users to add hashtags to their posts. Users can then click on the hashtag to view all activity posts which contain that hashtag.
The extension allows you to set different permissions for each user role. You can make it so the activity tab only shows on certain user profiles; prevent a user role from creating posts; prevent users from being able to attach a photo to a post and prevent a user role from commenting on posts.
To make the extension as efficient and quick as possible we have added in lazy load for posts. By default the extension will load 10 posts at a time and will load more as user scrolls down page. As admin you can set in options how many posts you want to be loaded at a time and you can set a different number for mobile devices.
What’s coming in future updates?
We believe in the MVP approach to products and getting early feedback from users. The initial release of the extension has mainly focused on the posting interface. Much more is planned with this extension including showing activity on the feed which shows other interactions on site e.g John Doe created a new blog post etc.
In conjuction with the upcoming release of the extension, we are running another giveway where we are giving away 5 annual licenses for the extension. So if you’d like to be in with a chance of winning one of the free licenses then just enter the giveway below. The more actions you complete the higher chance you will have of winning 😉 The giveway will end on Monday.
